Lip Lines

Lip lines are fine wrinkles that form around the mouth, often due to aging, sun exposure, or repetitive facial movements like smiling and speaking. These lines can make the lips appear thinner or less defined.

Causes

Vertical wrinkle lines around the border of the mouth are known as barcode lines or smoking lines. These lines develop with age from loss of skin volume and elasticity. Sun damage and smoking accelerate the formation of these lines by causing the breakdown of collagen and elastin. As a result of skin collagen loss and skeletal support, the area above the lips becomes wrinkled and sunken.  This is particularly noticed when applying lipstick since the color tends to "bleed" into the lines. These lines then have a premature aging impact on your entire facial appearance.

These vertical upper lip lines rarely come to mind as the first area to treat lines and skin texture. The reason is that people focus on other aspects of skin and facial features so much so that this issue usually sneaks up on people. Most do not consider this a major skin issue until after lines have become obvious and deeply ingrained. At this point, it may mean requiring more intensive treatments or less satisfactory results.  If not treated in time, the problem of these lip lines can become very difficult to treat.

Treatment Options

Dermal Fillers

Botox

Dysport

CO2 Laser Treatment

Chemical Peel

Dermal Filler is the best option to smooth and plump the skin around the lips for soft subtle enhancement. Redefining the border of the lips can soften these lines without injecting each one individually. The treatment aims to help restore the lips to their original shape and volume while maintaining a natural look that is in balance with your overall face.

Neuromodulators such as Botox/Dysport can relax the muscle that forms the "o" movement and make these lines less apparent when speaking.

CO2 Laser resurfacing addresses the surface skin and fine lines, providing excellent rejuvenation results by stimulating your body's own collagen to restore elasticity and produce firmer, smoother skin in the treated area.

Chemical Peel serves as a surface skin treatment that helps restore a smoother, less wrinkled appearance of the skin. It works by removing dead skin cells on the surface of your skin and promote cell turnover.
